Training and experience
I believe that one's journey through life and all the experience accumulated along that unique journey is what results in the doula you are. I truly like to take care of others, and it brings me great joy to cook, look after and be there for those who need it. My background in nursing, midwifery, corporate life and then motherhood has shaped and matured me for this role. I have breastfed my own children extensively and deeply realise just how delicate that balance is. With my first daughter, I very nearly stopped breastfeeding at 3 weeks as I experienced problems I could not overcome without help. Fortunately, I could get help and with the support of my husband and my mother I managed to continue. My second pregnancy did not go smoothly and my daughter was born at 33 weeks gestation. This was an incredibly stressful time, but it sparked my interest in kangaroo care and skin to skin contact.

B.Cur Nursing & Midwifery
This is a four year degree in Nursing and Midwifery from the University of Johannesburg. I will be forever grateful for the excellent training we received both academically and practically in busy and diverse Jo'burg hospitals. Although I left midwifery to pursue a corporate career in health care, I always knew my true calling was in birth work. Only after having my own children did it become clear as to exactly what that would look like.
